Frequency of central odontogenic tumors: a retrospective study in an Iraqi population utilizing 2022 WHO head and neck tumors classification

Objectives: Odontogenic tumors occupy an important position among head and neck tumors. Although, rarely encountered in medical practice but they considered increasingly challenging lesions for the clinicians due to their overlapping clinical histopathological features. This study was designed determine relative frequency of central odontogenic Iraqi population by utilizing 2022 WHO tumor classification. Material Methods: Sixty cases from a total 1869 case records were retrieved retrospectively file archive histopathology laboratory Baghdad city period 2016 2021. For each individual case, data regarding age, gender, location, type collected analyzed. Results: constituted 3.2% analyzed mostly benign. The male female ratio 1/1. age patients ranged 11 75 years. Most recorded third fourth decades life (n=31, 51.6%). most common benign malignant ameloblastoma ameloblastic fibrosarcoma respectively. these located mandible (n= 45, 75%). mandibular followed fibroma, myxoma. Regarding maxillary tumors, predominant fibrosarcoma, clear cell carcinoma. Conclusions: occurred more commonly showed no sex predilection. diagnosed frequent tumor. 11.67% all studied fibrosarcoma.
